Pedunculated fibroids hang from a stalk and can twist (torsion), causing sudden severe pelvic pain, nausea, or vomiting. Urgent gynaecology assessment in Hyderabad is needed to exclude torsion and other emergencies.

Not all fibroid pain is chronic pressure. Acute abdomen with a known pedunculated fibroid is a red flag. Please consult a doctor or emergency services urgently — do not wait for a routine OPD slot if pain is severe.

Why torsion happens

A stalk twists, cutting blood supply. The fibroid becomes ischaemic and exquisitely painful. Ultrasound with Doppler may suggest compromised flow.

Other acute causes to exclude

  • Ovarian cyst torsion or rupture
  • Appendicitis or urinary stones
  • Ectopic pregnancy in reproductive-age women

Treatment

Confirmed torsion often needs prompt laparoscopic detorsion and myomectomy or removal of the fibroid. Delayed care risks necrosis and infection.

After stabilisation

Follow-up with Dr. Avani Reddy at Kokapet or Gachibowli plans elective management of remaining fibroids and reviews fertility implications.
